Battery and Lights

And on the 7th day.........

Well I am well past the 7th day on this one, but none the less, I picked up a battery yesterday, nothing special, and nothing expensive, but it has 12 volts, and for right now that's all it needs to have. Actually the reviews are not bad on it, something like 190CCA, so it should last me for some time, well at least a season...

I almost dropped a load though, yesterday I charged up the battery, checked it today, showed 12.7 volts, perfect, so I put the thing into the bike, hooked up everything, and turned the key......

NOTHING.....not even a spark....

Crap, checked the voltage, good, checked the wires, plus OK, ground OK, even ran a second ground, but still no life....

So I thought back over the months I have been at this, and remembered I took the ignition switch apart, to clean and lube, it was crappy, wouldn't lock and stiff to turn, so I took it apart again, and found my mistake, there is a ring inside and I put it in the wrong sequence, shuffled things around a bit, put it back together, and plugged it in....

Turned the key to ON, and BAMMMMMMM, the bike lit up like a Christmas tree, the fuel pump rattled to life, and I am happy....

As they say, Lights, Camera, Action.......

Well a little bit of progress today, not lots, it was after all family day, so had to spend time with the family...

But I did get to put in the new bearing for the sprocket/hub, ohhh it spins so smoothly...

and I changed out the hardware for the seat, now I can use the same key for ignition, gas cap, and the seat lock...yay.....

I have a solo seat cover as well, but I am missing the back portion as you can see in the pic,,,,,,anyone have one, or a lead on one, or I will just have to find a way of closing up the hole.....

Well a little bit done today....

I mounted the turn signals, the license plate light is now wired as well (picture don't show it, I did it after) mounted the rear caliper as well, so it's getting there...

I think I will now go and get a battery, I am at a point I can test the electrical, and to make sure at least lights, and such things are working....

Brake_cleaning

so the last couple of nights, I have spent tearing apart the brake calipers and seeing what condition the braking system is in. To my relief, all is in good order, nothing was overly dirty, pitted, or messed up, pistons were all good, seals were in good enough shape to be reused, so after taking all 3 apart and inspecting, all were put back together reusing everything, and can now go in the pile of things to paint....

So after a good soak, some scrubbing, and painting, getting the SS Allen Cap Head screws, and some cursing along the way, the carbs are back together and ready to go back on the bike once the bike is ready....

I should have painted the bars, but too late now, maybe the next time the carbs are out, really there is no sense in any cosmetics on these carbs, because once all is back in place, you don't even see them....

So I let the carb bodies soak for a few hours, and to my dismay, once I took them out of the solution, they went and turned darker on me...YUK....

I don't think it will have any affect on the function of the carb, they just look dark now, like they are old or something, I heard this can happen with vinegar, but didn't think MrClean would have this effect, next time I am going back to my PineSol dip.....

At least they are clean, all the crud is gone, and yes there could be crap in the jets and such, but it's a chance I will have to take at this time....

Tomorrow I will put them back together, if I get the SS screws and get the tops painted...
